Added 07/03/2017
To mark #NAW2017 we talk to Charlie Chai-Tsai, a Commissioning Manager at Lloret Control Systems Ltd. Charlie started his career as a Get Fired Up apprentice a decade ago.

Can you tell us about your current role?

My current role is “Commissioning Manager” within Lloret Control Systems Ltd. The role involves the commissioning of fire alarm systems, overseeing the commissioning procedure of each of the companies on projects, and also includes assisting Project Managers. I also get involved in the technical aspect of the company to engineer challenging tasks that arise.

You graduated almost 10 years ago - What has been your highlight?

My highlight has been getting involved in interesting construction projects. One being the commissioning of Monument Place, which involved a complex cause and effect strategy for a major building contractor which we completed extremely successfully.

What did you gain from doing your apprenticeship with Gent?

I received some great advice and have been given a better understanding of the fire alarm industry and workplace. The training on Gent products and CPD talks were also invaluable. The involvement of Gent throughout my apprenticeship highlighted the vast aspect of avenues a career in fire alarms can take you.

What would you say to a young person thinking of taking an apprenticeship?

I would say that it would be a great opportunity to build from a solid foundation and an apprenticeship will help develop your career. By learning from different personalities with different skill sets it can help guide and develop your future within the industry.
